Since the simultaneous publication of Nikon D1H and D1X back to single digit in the series '2001 professional Nikon D' has been split into two - the X series is designed for applications such as high resolution fashion or landscape photography and a series of H for high speed sports type photography (lower resolution but faster continuous shooting). When the Nikon D3 was announced in August 2007 it did not carry an H''in its name but was clearly designed for speed. So the question is not if, but when, Nikon will launch a high-resolution partner. Ostensibly, the new flagship is the identical twin of the D3.
